Continuing its fast-paced engine development efforts, Kohler Co. used the recent OPEI Lawn & Garden Expo to introduce several new gasoline engine models across its entire horsepower range. Included was a new horizontal shaft configuration for the Aegis liquid-cooled engine series; the addition of 20 and 23 hp models to the Triad OHC engines; the availability of electronic fuel injection for its Command Pro 26 hp vertical shaft model; 16 and 17 hp versions of its single-cylinder vertical shaft Command engines; and an 8.5 hp Command Pro CS horizontal shaft engine.
Firwin also developed an innovative method of covering the entire 40 ft. long tank of a military tanker truck with a removable, reusable insulation blanket. The tanker truck was designed to maintain water at a comfortable drinking temperature for front line troops under all weather conditions. The cover was primarily engineered for energy conservation, as the small onboard auxiliary generator set, used to provide power for the heating and refrigeration unit, would otherwise not be able to effectively heat or cool the water. Insulation blankets have generally been considered a somewhat mundane, but necessary part of many engine applications. The concept was simple; part of the engine was hot, the manufacturer didn''t want somebody leaning on it and getting burned, so a blanket was put over the hot spot.

The Slugger Air Force pneumatic drill, at 24 lbs, 6 1/4" high, is useful for confined area drilling. The drill''s features include a permanent magnet that turns on or off by air power, a cutter capacity of up to 1 1/16" diameter x 3/4" depth and the ability to use ShortSlugger cutters and frame cutters. These cutters'' geometry allows the operator to drill multi-layered truck frames in a single pass.
